How Boyan Slat Made Cleaning Up The Ocean His Full-Time Job

Why Should You Care

While diving in Greece, 20-year-old Boyan Slat noticed more plastic in the ocean than he did fish and was shocked to find out no serious efforts had been made to investigate the issue.

Like any 20-something faced with a problem, Slat took to the internet for answers and sought to crowd fund his D-I-Y invention for scrubbing the ocean floors.

With only a few days left to spare, he managed to raise 2 million dollars to launch The Ocean Cleanup Project, bringing him one step closer to his vision of a plastic-free sea.
