Lauren Leto is who I want to be when I grow up-even though she’s about five years younger than me. She’s beautiful, smart, witty and most of all she’s carved her own authentic path—blending crass text message humor, tech and classic literature.

Texts From Last Night may have been a “fluke” when Lauren co-founded the web venture some five years ago, but it has since become the established go-to college humor site, with  a loyal fan base of two million followers on twitter. Although we loved listening to Lauren read highlights from Texts From Last Night during our shoot, some texts proved a bit too raunchy for the camera. I recommend you explore the site’s all timers, or read some of my favorites below:

(774): I just walked into a room and someone yelled, Dibs!

(407): I went to disney world today with my friends, met snow white, then saw her later at a bar. she is naked next to me in her bed, passwed out. when you wish upon a star…

Lauren’s self-deprecating sense of humor belies a strong work ethic and erudite knowledge of literature.  If Lauren barely passed her pre-calculus class in college–or rather failed it a few times–she has by now out read many English teachers.

Outside of her various tech ventures, Lauren spent about two years rereading every classic-from the Great Gatsby to Crime and Punishment for her book “Judging a Book by its Lover: A Field Guide to the Heart and Minds of Readers Everywhere.” Chapters in this book include: “The Bookshelf of the Vanities,” “Stereotyping people by Favorite Authors” and “How to Speak Condescendingly.”

Let’s face it, we all have books proudly displayed on a shelf and those hidden away on our kindle! Lauren writes with as much interest and humor about the books on your shelf–high school days remnants?–as she does about those shamelessly tucked away.

Lauren’s twenties are inspiring; she followed through and executed original concepts which frankly speaking, would probably not have cut it in either in Computer Science or English class. All that with mass appeal, humility and dirty humor.
